In April 2012, Top Level Design and three other applicants including dotgay LLC had applied to operate the gTLD.[9] In a guest column published by the LGBT publication PQ Monthly in October 2013, the domain name registry's CEO Ray King said he was inspired to apply for .gay by his late gay brother-in-law Clyde and other family members. King outlined why he wanted the gTLD to remain open in order to benefit the global LGBT community, using three main concepts: "Freedom of Choice", meaning the purpose of gTLDs like .gay and .lgbt should not be defined by gatekeepers; "Freedom of Speech", or not allowing censorship of content appearing on .gay domains; and the "Freedom to Register", suggesting there should not be a barrier to authenticate oneself as LGBTQ to register a .gay domain. In the latter concept, King argued against the need for domain purchasers to become a member of an "Authentication Partner" (LGBT organizations such as the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association or Human Rights Campaign), who would be required to create usernames and passwords for all of their members. According to King, "This means higher costs, disenfranchising many potential registrants such as youth and people in developing countries and also, forced identification, which to some may be anywhere from distasteful to outright dangerous. Further, there are many LGBTQ folks who simply do not wish to participate in formal organizations."[10] The column concluded by asking community members to express their support or opposition of an open .gay gTLD.[10]


The "Sunrise II" phase for registration began on April 6, 2020. Following a delay because of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which Top Level Design offered to provide a limited number of domains to groups "working to foster digital Pride",[19] domains became available to the general public on September 16, 2020.[20] Twenty percent of registration revenue will benefit CenterLink and GLAAD; approximately $75,000 was raised, as of late September 2020.[21][22]


I just bought a raspberry pi and made it a web server. I have a network with 1 IP. I created a DMZ and I am able to access my raspberry pi web server from the internet. I bought a domain that I intend to use for my web site but I found that I need to create some name servers(primary and secondary) and provide IPs for those name server to those from which I bought my domain name.


Your secondary server should be on a completely different network, and preferably continent, than your primary server. Note that my secondary name server, ns2.teaparty.net, is nowhere near ns.teaparty.net in address space, and in a different country to boot. In the good old days, operators of primary name servers would swap services with each other, so that my primary would also be your secondary, and vice-versa. Alternatively, in these days of cheap VPSes, a tiny, cheap VPS will do the job of 2ary very well.

DNSSEC is a standardized extension to the DNS-protocol and guarantees the authenciity and integrity of data in the domain name system. It was developed to counter cache poisoning. DNSSEC uses a public-key cryptosystem to secure name server queries and serves to verify sources. It secures the path between teh DNS servers and validated DNS clients, including resolvers with their caches which are positioned in between. DNSSEC helps to ensure that the queried domain name leads to delivery of the recorded IP address. In order to create the required digital signature for DNSSEC, a set of keys is generated, consisting of a private and a public key. The private key is only known to the owner. The public key is published in the DNS and can be used to check and verify a signature that has been issued with a private key. The public key must be credible for this, which is why the chain of trust (a key hierarchy) is implemented, which enables all signatures to be checked with only one public key. A zone that is located as high as possible in the DNS tree receives the public key of its delegated subzones and signs these digitally.
